Purpose
To ensure deposit-related cash and liabilities are complete, accurate, and auditable by:
- Matching PSP-reported deposits with internal deposit records
- Identifying deposits received but not yet recorded, and vice versa
- Managing unrealized deposit payables during settlement timing gaps
- Generating consistent accounting entries based on reconciliation outcomes
Unmatched deposits are carried forward across periods to ensure complete visibility until fully settled.
Data sources
- PSP deposit transactions: Successful payment deposit records from provider.
- Internal deposit transactions for a payment processor: Completed deposit records captured in the internal system for the payment processor.
- Unmatched deposits from prior periods: Deposit transactions from both PSP and internal records that were not matched during prior workflow runs.
- Chart of Accounts: Used to map and generate consistent journal entries.
Reiterate automatically identifies source data types and normalizes fields to enable reliable reconciliation and accounting actions.
Key processing steps
1. Reconciliation dataset preparation
Two reconciliation datasets are created to ensure full coverage:
- PSP reconciliation set: Current-period PSP deposits plus unmatched PSP deposits from prior periods.
- Internal reconciliation set: Current-period internal deposits plus unmatched internal deposits from prior periods.
Unmatched deposits persist until resolved, ensuring continuity across reconciliation cycles.
2. Deposit reconciliation
- Match PSP deposits with internal deposit records using transaction identifiers.
- Include carried-forward unmatched deposits from previous periods.
- Classify deposits as fully matched, unmatched, or requiring manual review.
3. Unrealized payable handling
Unrealized deposit payables are adjusted based on reconciliation state:
- Matched deposits: Reverse unrealized payable and create actual payable entry.
- PSP-only deposits: Credit unrealized payable (cash received but not yet recorded by TR).
- Internal-only deposits: Debit unrealized payable (deposit recorded but payment not received).
4. Journal entry generation
Based on reconciliation outcomes, the workflow generates draft journal entries for:
- Customer deposit payables
- Cash received from the PSP
- Unrealized payable adjustments
All entries follow predefined Chart of Accounts mappings and are prepared for review and approval before posting.
Outputs
- Journal entries: Review-ready entries for deposits and unrealized payable adjustments
- Matched deposits: Fully reconciled PSP and internal deposit transactions
- Unmatched internal deposits: Deposits recorded internally but not yet received from the PSP
- Unmatched PSP deposits: Deposits received from the PSP but not yet recorded internally
- Summary pivots: Aggregated views of deposit states, reconciliation outcomes, and payable balances
